Humor Force Five (HFV) is UCSC’s longest-running, and consequently most venerable, improv troupe. When its wizened members aren’t yelling at kids to get off their lawn, they can be found performing a variety of short form and long form improv escapades at various venues around the UCSC campus and throughout California stages/competitions. Although traditions are made to be broken, auditions for the team are usually held fairly close to the beginning of the school year. If you are interested in joining the hijinks, keep your eyes peeled for fliers and Instagram event posts come September.

Hello, world! I’m Sydney, a Psychology major with a special interest in childhood trauma. I take my fun VERY seriously, as I understand how playing make-believe is the brains most easily accessible yet effective form of healing <3 Humor Force Five carries a legacy I’m glad to have contributed to as my dedication to play as an art form started here
Hi my name is Donio, a Theater Arts/Psychology major who is working towards becoming a PhD holder in Psycho-Drama with a focus in Improv performance! I think everything is improv! Ever had a conversation? IMPROV! Interviewed for a job? IMPROV!! So what better way to become a better human overall than to get silly with Humor Force Five at UCSC?
Hey, I am Gabrielle, a UCSC Mathematics improviser! I am a circus performer and director :) I have always embraced the unknown. When something unexpected happens, improv builds new moments of connection! Characters living authentically is more compelling than anything else, and this underpins the emotional heart of all stories, from stage to screen.
Hi my name is Avalon! I am a UCSC Theater Arts major and life long fool. I have an extensive acting resume including many plays, a student directed film, and a music video. I like to believe creativity and imagination are a form of magic. Two of the most important tools in the entire universe. I believe me and everyone else on Humor Force Five are experts in these two tools and we are ready to inspire the world with our magic!
Hey y’all, my name is Izzy and I’m acquiring my Bachelor’s degree in Language Studies here at UCSC! After being on HFV for a year, I can confidently say that improv has helped me through the rough times in life and I love making silly memories with other funny people. I hope that others are able to find their niche in the same way that I have found in improv and Dungeons and Dragons! Going into our adult lives, it’s super important to me that we continue to make believe and enjoy the company of those around us.
Hi there! My name’s Max Parker, I’m a Cognitive Science major with a special focus on autism. I myself am autistic, which I think is a plus in improv since I spent many years learning how to copy others’ speech patterns and mannerisms. I love improv because it gives me the ability to walk in someone else’s shoes and get absorbed in the world from their perspective.
